6.1 Before you Begin Checklist

Before you start the linking of the Web Server and Data/Application Server, there are a few things that you should check first.

Is the Web Administrator installed?

The Web Administrator is a Windows-based program used to link the various platforms together.

If your Web Server is a Windows machine, it is preferable to install it on the Web Server, as described for the Web Server below.

If the Web Server is not Windows machine, then the Web Administrator will need to be installed on a Windows PC as described here for the LANSA on Windows install procees:
Refer to Task: Install Other Features and select the following options.

On the Web Server

For a Windows Web Server:

A full Visual LANSA system is not required on the Web Server.

Data/Application Server

For a Windows Data/Application Server:

Is Visual LANSA installed?

If not, install Visual LANSA as described in Install LANSA on Windows in the LANSA on Windows Install Guide.

Either select the features you are planning to use or simply choose the default features in Select Features (recommended).

This install will provide some specific database connections for web development with Visual LANSA.

For an IBM i Data/Application Server:

Is LANSA for i installed?

Install a LANSA for i System as described in the Installing LANSA on IBM i Guide.

See also Configure Multi-Tier IBM I LANSA web Installation in the IBM i Adminstrators Guide.

Do you know the User ID you will use?

The recommended User ID is the name nominated during the install process.
If you don't wish to use that user, you can create a new one.

Note that the User must be the LANSA security officer or product owner.

Is the Listener running?

Ensure the Listener is installed and set to start automatically.

Is the correct LANSA license applied?

Refer to Product Licensing on the LANSA web site.
