Step 2. Specify Details

Specifying the parameters will define how your LANSA Stack behaves. It is the most important step in creating a stack and needs to be considered carefully. But, the worst that may happen is you need to recreate the stack again. You will see that instantiating a stack is not difficult to do, but understanding the effects of the various parameters and what will suit your application is another matter. Still, it is a great environment to try it and see what happens. All the help text for this dialog is provided on the dialog.

1.   Specify the name of the stack e.g. LansaStack.

2.   The most important parameters that you must specify are listed under the Essential Parameters group (in template order):

a.   Your LANSA MSI URL, unless you are running the demo in which case copy the example application from the parameter description and paste it into the field.

b.   Database User Name.

b.   Database Password.

c.   Web Server Password.

d.   Keypair Name.

e.   Remote Access Location CIDR.

f.   It is also advisable to change the Web Server User to a non-default value.

3.   You also need to provide the parameters listed under the Use Existing VPC or add a new VPC group. The easiest option is to set Create new VPC to Yes.

4.   The remainder of the parameters may be skipped if creating a demonstration stack.

5.   The Stack Type dictates the Database Configuration and Web Server Configuration parameters which are passed to the Custom or Master template. When you selected the Delivery Method LANSA Scalable Stack option in Summary you chose to use this simplified method. If you wish to have more granular control over these parameters then go back and choose the LANSA Scalable Stack Custom option. If you were to choose the LANSA Scalable Stack Custom you may wish to review Benchmark Configuration for some starting points for determining the values of these parameters

6.   The parameters grouped under Stack Maintenance are only relevant when updating the stack. All the Trigger parameters are examples of this and they have no effect when creating the stack, so you may safely skip them for the moment. Exercises using the Triggers are provided later on.

7.   Review each of the parameters and their help text in the Specify Parameters dialog.
